Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has this evening provided an update on the fitness of Eric Bailly, after the defender picked up a serious-looking injury.
Manchester United 2-1 Tottenham
The Red Devils went head-to-head with Premier League rivals Spurs in Shanghai earlier today, in an International Champions Cup clash.
United headed into proceedings having enjoyed a fine pre-season to date, on the back of respective victories over Perth Glory, Leeds United and Inter Milan.
And the impressive streak of results being enjoyed by the Manchester giants continued versus Tottenham, with United having run out eventual 2-1 winners.
Anthony Martial opened the scoring early on at the Hongkou Stadium, before Lucas Moura levelled things up shortly after the hour mark.
Angel Gomes’ strike 10 minutes from time, though, proved the difference between the sides.
Bailly crocked
On an otherwise positive day for the Red Devils, however, United were also dealt a potentially-serious blow on the injury front.
The player to have picked up the problem was defender Eric Bailly.
Less than 10 minutes after being introduced as a half-time substitute, the Ivorian appeared to twist his knee, eventually resulting in Bailly being stretchered off in clear pain:

The 25-year-old was later photographed leaving the Hongkou Stadium on crutches:

‘Doesn’t look great’
As such, speaking on the back of his side’s latest preseason win, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was inevitably questioned on Bailly’s well-being.
During a post-match interview with MUTV, the United boss went on to confirm that the stopper is set for ‘scans and checks’ on his knee, adding that, as things stand, things don’t look good for Bailly:
‘It seems that he’s twisted his knee so we just have to do some scans and checks on him.’
‘At first sight, it doesn’t look great but let’s see how it goes.’
