As per a report from Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport, the agent of Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has flown to England to iron out the final details of his client’s move to Manchester United.
24-year-old midfielder Milinkovic-Savic has long-been regarded as one of the finest talents in Italy.
After gradually working his way into Lazio’s first-team picture on the back of his Stadio Olimpico arrival in 2015, the Serb soon went on to showcase exactly why he had been viewed as a genuine star in the making at previous club Genk.
Milinkovic-Savic possesses all of the characteristics of a modern central-midfielder, combining touch, technique, passing ability, a superb engine and a consistent eye for goal, all wrapped up in a 6ft 3in powerhouse frame.
Perfectly showcasing just how highly-thought of the 12-time capped international is in Serie A was the fact that, despite having largely-struggled to replicate his stellar 2017/18 form this past season, Milinkovic-Savic was nevertheless named the Italian top-flight’s finest midfielder.
The 2018/19 campaign also culminated in the first major club honour of the 24-year-old’s career, as Lazio downed Atalanta to clinch the Coppa Italia title back in May.
Man United bound?
As such, Milinkovic-Savic’s evident star potential and room for growth have inevitably led to the Serb being persistently linked with a move away from the Italian capital over the last couple of summers.
And reports stemming from Italy over the last 48 hours have begun to mount that Savic’s transfer to one of Europe’s top clubs is now finally on the verge of coming to fruition.
His potential destination? Manchester United.
After La Repubblica first suggested that negotiations between the Red Devils and Lazio were ‘on the home straight’, the Gazzetta dello Sport have today doubled down on such claims.
According to Stefano Cieri, a deal worth 80 million Euro+ has been ‘practically closed’. This comes on the back of Milnkovic-Savic’s agent, former Chelsea hitman Mateja Kezman, flying to Manchester for talks with the United hierarchy.
Crucially, however, it is added that SMS’ move to Old Trafford is fully dependent on Paul Pogba departing for Real Madrid.
Savic has reportedly been chosen as Pogba’s successor in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s midfield.
